As an Abomination is the one hundred sixth chapter of the Rurouni Kenshin manga.
Synopsis[]
The members of the Jūppongatana meet Shishio and ask him for an explanation about why the plans for the Rengoku were kept secret from them while they were sent to create the Great Kyōto Fire. Shishio puts the blame to the "change of plans" on Hōji, but some of the Jūppongatana don't believe that. What will Hōji do to support Shishio and show his loyality to the group? What will be Shishio's orders about his plans for the final confrontation?

Chapter Notes[]
This chapter has several differences with other portrayals of the events of the story in different iterations of the franchise:
Differences with the 1996 anime[]
- In the manga, when Hōji takes the blame on the Rengoku incident, after Usui breaks Hōji's finger, as a way of atonement Hōji takes off all his 10 fingernails and gives them to each member of the Jūppongatana. This is somewhat censored in the anime, where Hōji just hurts himself in the hand with a Tantō.
Differences with Rurouni Kenshin: Shin Kyōto Hen[]

Trivia[]
- Hōji's act of maiming his hands is similar to the Yakuza practice of yubatsume, in where a disgraced member is required to cut off their pinky finger on their left hand as a means of penance for their misdeed.
