Trivia[]
- Shishio's hideout at Mount Hiei is called "The Shrine of the Six Torii". A Torii (鳥居) is a traditional Japanese gate most commonly found at the entrance of or within a Shinto shrine, where it symbolically marks the transition from the mundane land to the sacred land. While related more commonly with Shinto religion, there being six torii is synonymous with Buddhism, which in Buddhist cosmology believes there are ascending six realms that comprise the mortal world before nirvana. Historically, Mount Hiei was once the main site of the Tendai sect of Buddhism with Enryaku-ji and was razed to the ground by Oda Nobunaga, and into the years after was reputed to be a place common with thieves and criminals who waived their activities to the authorities as "religious enlightenment".
