The Storm Breaks is the twenty-first chapter of the Rurouni Kenshin manga.
Synopsis[]
Kenshin, Sanosuke, and Yahiko break into the courtyard of Takeda Kanryū's mansion and force their way through the guards, while Megumi reunites with Kanryū and attempts to kill him with a dagger. She is stopped by Aoshi who seizes it and takes a beating from Kanryū. Aoshi informs Takeda that the former Hitokiri Battōsai is on his way to the mansion, which terrifies Kanryū, while Aoshi is shown being excited about the idea of fighting him. What will Takeda Kanryū do now that the Kenshingumi is attacking the mansion?

This chapter has several differences with other portrayals of the events of the story in different iterations of the franchise:
Differences with the 1996 anime[]
- In the manga it is Shinomori Aoshi who takes Megumi's tantō when she tries to kill Kanryū. This is in contrast with the anime, where Han'nya is the one who takes Megumi's tantō.
- In the manga when Megumi tries to kill Kanryū she makes a small cut at him in the arm. He hits her so she falls to the floor, and then Kanryū keeps hitting her. In the anime Kanryū just slaps Magumi once so she falls to the ground.
