Chapter Notes[]
This chapter has several differences with other portrayals of the events of the story in different iterations of the franchise:
Differences with the 1996 anime[]
- In the manga, Aoshi beheads the corpses of the 4 Oniwabanshū who died saving him and escapes with them, so the police just find the 4 bodies without the heads. Then Aoshi buries the 4 heads in graves. This is in contrast to the anime, in which Aoshi takes the 4 bodies with him when he escapes.
- In the manga, Megumi goes with doctor Gensai to study medicine and eventually become a doctor. In the anime Ayame and Suzume are also with them when they go (since both kids are anime original characters).
Differences with Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration[]

Differences with the 2023 anime[]
- In the manga, the decapitation of the Oniwabanshu members' corpses are fully shown. This is in contrast with the anime where those scenes are heavily edited with moved camera angles and blackouts per media censorship.
