Synopsis[]
Ōkubo Toshimichi asks Kenshin to use his sword and the Hiten Mitsurugi-ryū to stop Shishio Makoto, Kenshin's succesor as an assassin in the shadows in the last days of the Bakumatsu, who is a growing threat to the security of the goverment and wants to conquer Japan for himself. What are the hidden motives behind Ōkubo's plea? What are the stakes for the stability and security of the country?

- In the manga Ōkubo stops Kenshin and Saitō's fight to the death, at the Kamiya Dōjō. This fight (and Ōkubo talking inside the Dōjō) is omitted. In the live action film Ōkubo just calls Kenshin to his goverment offices and asks him directly to stop Shishio Makoto.
- In the manga Kenshin and Ōkubo's talk take place at night. In the live action film they talk during the day.
