Prelude to Battle is the seventy-seventh chapter of the Rurouni Kenshin manga.
Synopsis[]
Chō goes to the Arai house looking for Arai Shakkū's last sword. After Seikū initially denies it, Chō takes Arai Iori (Seikū's baby son) as a hostage. Arai Azusa (Seikū's wife) tells Chō that Shakkū's last sword does exist, and it's at the Hakusan Shrine. So Chō goes to the Shrine still holding Iori as a hostage. Misao learns about this and sends an emergency message to the Oniwabanshū. What will kenshin do to stop Chō? What can he do with a broken Sakabatō against a member of the Jūppongatana?

Trivia[]
- This chapter introduces the concept of "a sword that is offered to the gods": According to ancient japanese tradition, sword maker artisans would seldom create a sword that was never used (never touched by blood), and place it in a shrine as a relic offered to the gods.
