Anime Notes[]
- There is a difference between the events of the manga and the anime:
- In the anime Hōji presents to Shishio a bouquet of Gladioli flowers and explains its name roots (from the latin, the diminutive of Gladius, a sword used by ancient Roman foot soldiers). This scene is anime original.
- Once again, this episode uses flashback scenes in a peculiar way:
- When Okina is explaining the arrival of Commodore Perry’s fleet, some previous history of the Oniwabanshū, and Shishio's rise, those scenes are in black and white.
- But among those scenes there are some memories of the Aoiya and the rest of the Kyōto Oniwabanshū, which are shown with a slight hint of color.
Trivia[]
- This episode was titled after the original of Act 74.
- When the narrator is describing Kyōto at the beginning of the episode, several real landmarks of the city are shown:
- The Yasaka Pagoda, also known as the Tower of Yasaka, it is a 5-story Buddhist pagoda from the 7th century.
- The temple of Kiyomizu-dera, a Buddhist temple established in 778.
- The Fushimi Inari-taisha shrine, the head shrine of the kami Inari.
- Some girls on a street are looking at a Chow Chow dog. The Chow Chow is a dog breed originally from Northern China.
- Okina mentions the sixth year of Kaei (1853) and the arrival of Commodore Matthew Perry’s fleet of four ships: Susquehanna, Mississippi, Plymouth and Saratoga.
