Plot[]

RK18-02

Kaoru and Yahiko fighting at the Dōjō

Yahiko has gotten quite arrogant. After saving the Akabeko from being robbed by an armed thief with a butcher knife, Yahiko has begun growing lazy about his training and even thinks he has graduated to using a sword, rather than a shinai. Yet, lurking in a forest somewhere in Tokyo is Hiruma Gohei. Gohei has become a successful businessman, yet, he longs for getting revenge on Kenshin. He has hired the services of the Tsuchikumo Ryū, two brothers skilled in assassination. Once terms are agreed upon, Gohei suggests to the two a plan he has.

RK18-06

Kaoru goes out to practice Kendo

Both Kenshin and Kaoru leave Yahiko behind at the Dōjō. Kaoru goes off to practice kendo, while Kenshin goes shopping. Yahiko ends up cleaning the floors as a result of their absences. As he complains about doing such tasks, Gohei makes his presence known by throwing a piece of wood at Yahiko's head. Angered, Yahiko calls out Gohei, leading to a little fight. Even if Gohei can't use his hands well, he battles Yahiko's shinai with an umbrella. Gohei taunts Yahiko, saying that if he had a sword, he still wouldn't beat him. The comment upsets Yahiko even further. From the top of his head, Yahiko says he will fight Gohei with Kenshin's Sakabatō. Delighted to hear that from the boy's mouth, Gohei runs away, shouting back at Yahiko to meet him at the Shinto shrine outside of town.

RK18-08

Yahiko enters Kenshin's room to take the Sakabatō

Later, when Kenshin returns, Yahiko sneaks into his room to steal his Sakabatō. Although Kenshin notices Yahiko sneaking away with his Sakabatō, he does nothing. With the Sakabatō in his possession, Yahiko arrives at the set location, but is ambushed by the Tsuchikumo Ryuu. When Kaoru returns home, a kunai with a note attached is thrown at the door, and she opens it. The note is signed by Gohei, telling Kenshin to meet him at Kikyo Hill before sunset if he wishes to save Yahiko.

RK18-13

Yahiko jumps into the river to escape the policeman

Kenshin and Kaoru go together to Kikyo Hill where Kenshin, unarmed, and is pitted up against Onizaki Tekkan and Gengo with Gohei watching from afar. Kenshin is helpless against the brothers. Gengo tries to hit Kenshin with his nunchuks, but Kenshin dodges all of his moves. Once Kenshin gets an uppercut on Gengo, something holds him down. It was a Tsuchikumo Ryū technique. Just in the nick of time, after escaping his bonds and running away from the police for carrying a sword, Yahiko arrives. Standing in his way, however, is Gohei. This time, Gohei is armed with a sword.

RK18-15

Hiruma Gohei blocks Yahiko's attempt to help Kenshin

The two swords clash. Yahiko is forced to draw the Sakabatō. Gohei has the edge over Yahiko strength wise, but using some of his teachings from Kaoru, Yahiko uses Gohei's strength to his advantage. Somehow, Yahiko slips under and gets a good shot at Gohei's crotch with his knee. The pain is indescribable, and Gohei is knocked out. Quickly, Yahiko throws Kenshin his sword. Just as Gengo is about to attack him, Kenshin raises his Sakabatō and hits his opponent in the eyes. With just one stroke of his sword, Kenshin cuts the wire that is holding him down, the so-called Tsuchikumo Ryū specialty.

RK18-17

Kenshin attacks Tekkan using a "Dō Ryu Sen"

With his brother out of commission and his special "technique" a failure, Tekkan charges at Kenshin, spinning his spear. Just one "Dō Ryu Sen" (Earth/Land Dragon Flash) from Kenshin, however, is enough to defeat Tekkan. Yahiko joins Kenshin and Karou and apologizes for his stupid actions. Kenshin accepts it without hesitation, glad that Yahiko has grown to understand the facts. Yet, after everything, Yahiko is still arrogant. Arrogant at the fact that he made up a new technique for the Kamiya Kasshin Ryū - the Tearing Nutcracker.
