The Days of Remorse: The Sad Past of Shougo and Sayo (追憶の日々· 翔伍と小夜の哀しき過去 Tsuioku no Hibi, Shōgo to Sayo no Kanashiki Kako) is the 72nd episode of the Rurouni Kenshin anime.
Synopsis[]
Misao tells Kenshin, Kaoru, and Yahiko what she learned between Shōgo and Lady Magdalia. The "miracles" Shōgo performed to help cure numerous people was due to his study of Western science, however he is unable to cure his dying younger sister. All of Shougo's ambitions are driven from his sorrowful past, as he and Sayo were forced to flee their homeland after their parents and other followers were killed one after another by nonbelievers.
Resuming their mission at night, Kenshin, Kaoru, Yahiko, and Misao spot Santo in the open while signalling (in morse code) the formation of an army from his boat. Lady Magdalia is informed that Kaiou has her medallion, alerting her to search for it in his room. She later realizes that Kaiou plans to betray Shōgo and her. Sanosuke and Shōzo show up, trying to stop Kaiou, only to allow the three of them to be locked into the cage, as an avalanche of boulders plummet over them.
