Higashidani Ōta is the younger brother of Higashidani Sanosuke and the youngest member of the Higashidani family.

Appearance[]

Ota is a small child with black hair, thin eyebrows, and red cheeks. Ten years later, Ota has a growth spurt and is about a tall a Sano.

Ota wears a white shirt, dark colored pants with swirl pattern all over them, and wears sandals. After meeting his brother, Ota had the Aku Symbol sewn onto his shirt.

Personality[]

Rather small and weak at the age of six, Ōta spends a great deal of time being protected by his older sister Uki, but learns the value of strength after finally meeting his long-lost elder brother, even adopting the "Aku" symbol Sanosuke wears on his back.

Relationship[]

  • Higashidani Kamishimoemon: Kamishimoemon is Ota's father. Ota cares about his father very much, as he chased after to help his father fight against Fudosawa's men, after Uki had fallen asleep.
  • Higashidani Naname: Naname is Ota's mother.
  • Sagara Sanosuke: Sano is Ota's older brother. After witnessing what Sano was capable of, he had the Aku symbol sewn onto his clothes and even went to the Kamiya dojo to train to get strong.
  • Higashidani Uki: Uki is Ota's older sister. Uki is very protective of Ota and has him hide whenever their is trouble.

Abilities[]

As a child, Ota had no skills in combat, but when he moved to Tokyo, Ota started to be trained in the Kamiya Kasshin-Ryu. It is unknown how skilled he is, but it is implied that he is one of the top four of the school.

History[]

Jinchu Arc[]

Ota was hiding when Uki is confronted by Fudosawa. After Sano breaks everything up, Ota comes out, which Sano berates him for hiding. Later, Ota and Uki return home and start to make hats.

The next day, the three finish making the hats and head out to sell them. Along the way, they encounter Sano and have him join them for lunch. Once in town, Ota, Sano, and Uki head to eat lunch while their father goes to sell the hats. After they finish eating, they hear a commotion outside and rush to their father's side. Ota then watches as Sano manages to defuse the situation.

Later, they arrive home while also dragging Sano with them. While preparing dinner, Uki has Ota bring a bowl of rice to their mother's memorial. After praying to their mother, the townspeople arrive with food. They decide to have a party with the food they brought, which his father tries to get Ota to drink his share of alcohol, since he was cut off, but Uki stops their father. When the party ends, Ota is helping cleaning up when they notice their father is gone. Ota and Uki head out to search for him, but they end up finding Sano, who tells them to wait at home while he heads out.

After they arrive back home, Ota prepares some weapons and heads out when his sister falls asleep. Ota manages to find his father, who is unconscious, and manages to wake him up. The two head off to where Sano is at and find out that Sano had defeated all of Fudosawa's men. The three head back home, while Ota falls asleep and his father carries him back. Sano then wakes Ota up and apologizes for insulting him the other day, and advises him to head to the Kamiya dojo after his sister gets married, and to not trouble his sister. Sano then leaves, while Ota and his father head home. The next day, Ota heads out to play after Uki sews the Aku symbol onto his clothes.

In the 15th year of Meiji, Ōta journeys to Tokyo and becomes a student of the Kamiya dojo.

Hokkaido Arc[]

When Yahiko upsets Kaoru, Ota is called one of the "Four Emperors of the Kamiya Dojo" by Shin'ichi Kosaburō. Days later, Ota is seen leaving the dojo and comments about how Shin'ichi is calling them the Four Emperors again.

Trivia[]

  • Like the rest of the Higashidani family, the origin of his name comes from a direction, in his case the kanji Ō means "Center".
