Himura Kenshin is the legendary hitokiri of the Meiji Revolution, Himura Battosai, is the main protagonist of Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration manga.

Appearance[]

Kenshin is a shorty man with long red hair, thick red eyebrows, blue eyes, and an x pattern scar on his left cheek.

Kenshin wears a red kosode over a white shitage, white hakama, white tabi, waraji, and a white scarf. Kenshin carries his sakabato on his left hip.

Personality[]

Kenshin is a kind and caring individual, and has vowed to never take another live for the rest of his life. Kenshin is a helpful person and is willing to help others when they need it. Kenshin is willing to spare people's feels, as he told Kaoru her cooking was exotic even through it tastes terrible.

During the bakumatsu, Kenshin was willing to kill others in order to protect his allies. When he thought that Udo has killed Kaoru, Kenshin reverted back to this personality and was willing to kill Udo. Kenshin came out of this personality, when Kaoru grabs his arm and revealed that she was alive.

Relationships[]

  • Kamiya Kaoru: Kenshin saved Kaoru before Kanryu could kill her. Kenshin cares for Kaoru and stop his wandering just to protect her. Kaoru has a deep influence on Kenshin, as she was able to stop him from killing Udo.
  • Myojin Yahiko: Kenshin cares for Yahiko, and was willing to take the blame for Yahiko's mistake.
  • Sagara Sanosuke: Kenshin has faced off against Sano. After Kenshin defeated Sano, Kenshin has come to rely on Sano with protecting the dojo.
  • Saito Hajime: Kenshin and Saito are old adversaries of the Bakumatsu.

Abilities[]

Kenshin is an incredible swordsman with amazing speed. Kenshin able to move at amazing speed, and jump high into the air. Kenshin has good insight as he was able to predict Kanryu next move, after he defeated him. Kenshin uses the Hiten Mitsurugi-ryū style, which is a style that focuses on high speed. This style can easily kill people, but Kenshin wields a Sakabato, as to not kill anyone.

History[]

In Kyoto during the Bakumatsu, Kenshin is attacks by three Shinsengumi members. Kenshin uses his Ryukansen technique to kill two of them while wounding the last one. Udo uses the last one to attack Kenshin from his blind spot, but Kenshin pierces through the corpse to wound Udo's hands. Suddenly Saito appear and prepares to attack, which Kenshin looks a the blood on the ground. Saito says that they can change location if the blood is brother him, which Kenshin replies that this location is fine. Kenshin notices that Saito is going to use the Gatotsu, which Kenshin lifts up a corpse when Saito charges. As Saito rips through the corpse, Kenshin attacks from Saito blind spot multiple times but can only cut his cigarette. Saito says that Kenshin is doing that on purpose, which Kenshin says that he is giving his swings everything he has. Kenshin attacks with his Ryushosen technique, but Saito diverts the technique and kicks Kenshin. As Kenshin gets up, he comments about the words that is on Saito's sword. Saito explains that the words represent his justice just like Kenshin's, but Kenshin explains that his justice is about protecting. Kenshin and Saito tells the other that they are going to die and attack, but only just break each other's swords.

Prologue[]

In the 11th year of the Meiji Era, Kenshin walks down a road in Yokohama, when he is suddenly hit by a rickshaw. As the rickshaw man worried that he killed Kenshin, which Kenshin says that he is fine. The rickshaw man introduces himself as Dankichi, which Kenshin introduces himself as a rurouni. As Dankichi worries about Kenshin's katana, which Kenshin about to tell him that its a Sakabato but is cut off by people call for Dankichi. Kenshin then watch as the Elder that Dankichi has brought helps a wounded woman, and comments about how Yokohama is strange. When Ishizu shows up and has his thugs attack the wound patient, which Kenshin decides to step in. One of the thugs attacks Kenshin, but Kenshin avoids it by jumping up and take out the other thug by landing on him. As Dankichi grabs the patient and her daughter, Kenshin grabs the Elder's hand and they all run away.

Later at the International Hotel, Kenshin and Dankichi talk about how the Elder goes beyond the call of the normal doctor without asking for anything in return. As the elder arrive and reveals the patient is okay, Dankichi says that he has to leave now and offers Kenshin a ride. Kenshin gets in and comments about the Elder not asking anything in return for their service, which Dankichi says that fare-cheaters will be taken straight to the police. Kenshin says that he is rurouni and should walk, which the Elder offers to room for the night as a thanks for his help. Kenshin agrees to it and heads into the Hotel with the Elder. As the Elder goes to change, Rurouni notices a message and goes to inform the Elder but finds out the the Elder is a woman. After changing, the Elder explains why she changes her appearance to Kenshin. After listening to this, Kenshin apologizes for bargain in and decides to leave. Before leaving, Kenshin tells the Elder that a lot of people are grateful to her for what she had done for them and then leaves. As Kenshin is walking down the street he thinks about how he join up with the Ishin Shishi, until he notices the note for the Elder that he was going to give her.

Later, Kenshin comes to the Elder's rescue from Espiral. As Espiral comments about how he came to Japan to fight the samurai and that he is glad to have run into the legendary battosai, which Kenshin replies that he has shed that name ten years ago. Espiral says that Kenshin is a killer like him and attacks, but Kenshin avoids the attack and defeats Espiral with his Ryutsuisen technique. As Espiral worries that he is dead, but Kenshin explains that he wield a Sakabato and can't kill anyone.

The next day, Kenshin meets with the Elder and is informed what happen the Ishizu and Espiral. Kenshin comments about how the Elder is leaving Japan, which the Elder says that she has patients waiting for her in America. As the Elder is glad that Kenshin is seeing her off since if feel that Kenshin will be here to greet her the next time she comes, which Kenshin says that its not just him and shows her that other have come to say good bye. As Kenshin bids the Elder goodbye, the Elder talk about Kenshin's scar and how leaving a familiar environment for a new one can be relaxing and therapeutic. Kenshin thanks the Elder for her concern but explains that his past was a choice he made and the best he can do is protect as many people as possible with his sword. The Elder advices Kenshin that he will need to settle in one place and rest if he wants his scar to heal. As the Elder boards her ship and asks Kenshin to help other, which Kenshin agrees to it and continues his wondering.

Restoration[]

Five days later, Kenshin is walking in Tokyo when Yahiko attacks him. Yahiko says that he has been looking all over for Kenshin and that she will be in trouble if Kenshin were to be arrested, which Kenshin decides to offer his help. Kenshin is brought to a sword fighting performances, were he will be fight as the legendary hitokiri. As kenshin tries to talk to Yahiko about this, but Yahiko forces Kenshin to the arena while comments about how he knows Kenshin is an imposter and that Kenshin has been paid in advanced. Kenshin then notices that his opponent is Kaoru, who proclaims that she won't lose since she is protecting her dojo. As the match begins, Kaoru easily land a blow on Kenshin's head and wonders why Kenshin didn't draw his sword. Kenshin tells her that their is on reason to for him to draw his sword and tells the judge that the match is over. As the crowd starts to complian about the results of the match, Kenshin notices that the match is for gambling. Kanryu shows up and calms the crowd down while accusing Kaoru of rigging the match, which Kenshin steps in and says that he just wandered in since he throught that this was a festival.

Later Kenshin is brought to the Kamiya Dojo to treat the wound on his head, which Kaoru explains the style that her father created. As Kenshin comments about how Kaoru is participating in gambling performances, which Kaoru explains that Kanryu has brought the land and the she is trying to earn the land by earning ten victories within the performances. Kenshin hears this and wonders why Kanryu wants this Dojo. Suddenly Yahiko appears, which Kenshin notices that he is wounded. Kenshin then restrains Yahiko, so that Kaoru can apply ointment to Yahiko's wound. As Kaoru is applying the ointment, Kenshin hears Kaoru talk about how their are things in people's past that they don't want to reveal and that the only thing that matter is how they live in the present and live for the future. After Kaoru finishes applying the ointment and Yahiko heads to bed, Kenshin talks with Kaoru how Yahiko is a reverse hostage so that Kaoru doesn't do anything suspicious. kenshin then leaves, which Kaoru thanks him for protecting them earlier.

The next day, Kenshin appears before the Imposter Battosai and says that he would like a word with him. The imposter decides to draw his sword at Kenshin, but Kenshin easily stops him from drawing it fully. Keshin explains how he becomes a different person when he draws his sword and explains what he learned about Kanryu. Kenshin asks the imposter to tell him everything he knows about Kanryu. Later, Kenshin finds Yahiko wounded in an alley and says that he will lend Yahiko a hand.

Kenshin is taken to Kanryu's mansion and interrupts the evening program. Kanryu tells Kenshin that he doesn't want to waste the bullets on him, which Kenshin replies that he can't do that and says that their will be a pool of blood by Kanryu's feet. Kanryu gets angry and fires his gatling gun, which Kenshin avoids it by jumping up with Kaoru. Kenshin then defeat Kanryu with his Ryutsuisen technique, and explains that the battosai uses the Hiten Mitsurugi style. Kenshin explains that the style will kill without fail unless its used with a sakabato, which everyone realizes that Kenshin is the real Battosai. Kenshin says that he will not kill anybody anymore and that he is just a rurouni name Himura Kenshin.

The next day, the three are eating breakfast which they all find disgusting. As Kaoru and Yahiko argue about the food, Kenshin stops them and says that Kaoru exotic taste is unique. Kenshin then makes some more food, which they find delicious. As they are all eating, Sano breaks through the gate which the three head out to check up on things. Kaoru asks who Sano is, which Kenshin comments about how he was somebody that was went by Kanryu. Sano introduces himself and says that he came fight with Kenshin.

Sano attacks but Kenshin is able to avoid all of his punches. Kenshin lands a punch but it does not to Sano, which Sano tells Kenshin to draw his sword. Kenshin explains that he doesn't have a reason to draw his sword, which Sano says that that is a problem. Sano then demonstrates the Futae no Kiwami, which Kenshin is able to figure out how the technique works. Sano then begs Kenshin to accept his challenge, which Kenshin comments about how Sano enjoys fighting. Sano explains why he enjoys fighting so much and even says that he will do any Kenshin wants, even if Kenshin wins or loses. Kenshin decides to accept the challenge and explains that he becomes a different person when he draws his sword, which Sano says that he is fine with that. Sano attacks, but Kenshin is able to counter the Futae no Kiwami and defeats Sano. When Udo shows up and asks if Kenshin is going to finish him off, which Kenshin turn to him. Udo notices that looks in Kenshin eyes, and says that Kenshin doesn't take lives anymore. As Yahiko and Kaoru wonder who that was, which Kenshin recognizes him as Udo.

Later, Kenshin meets with Sano. Sano says that he will keep to their deal, which Kenshin wants Sano to use his strength to stop the bloodshed and cries of people. As Sano agrees to it and says that he will start by protecting the Dojo, which Kenshin is shocked by this.

The next day, Kenshin notices a cigarette butt on the ground and asks Kaoru about the Akabeko store. As Kaoru brings them all to the Akabeko restaurant, Kenshin is shocked by since while Kaoru explains how the Akabeko Store became a restaurant. As Saito shows up, Kenshin comments about how he knew is was Saito. Kaoru wonders who Saito is, which Kenshin tells her to not worry and that they are old acquaintances. Kenshin says that he and Saito has things to discuss and tells them to start without him. Kenshin and Saito head off and decide to talk at a shrine. Kenshin comments about how Saito is an officer, which Saito says that its not that different from what he was doing as a member of the Shinsengumi. Kenshin then asks what Saito wants, which Saito says that he found Kenshin out when he was sniffing around Kanryu. Saito asks why Kenshin has become a rurouni, instead of starting a new life with those he protected and takes a guess at Kenshin's reason. Kenshin says that he will tell Saito, and explains that he became a rurouni becuase he felt that he had no place to return to after everything he had done. Saito says that this is the reason why he called Kenshin naive, and says that Kenshin will find himself in a grave predicament if he continues to wield that Sakabato. Kenshin then tells Saito that he met Udo, which Saito explains who Udo is. Saito says that Kenshin can deal with Udo, which Kenshin comments about how much Saito has changed. Saito says that he is the loser of the restoration and that Kenshin should unfill his duty as the winner of the restoration. After their talks ends, Kenshin head to the Akabeko.

Once Kenshin arrives at the Akabeko, he is introduced to Tsubame. Kenshin then eats and listens as they all have a conversation. After they eat, Tsubame introduces Tae to Kenshin, as they pay. As they all walk home, they all talk about Tsubame. When Kaoru is shocked that Yahiko has money and could have paid for his part of the meal, which Kenshin says that Yahiko worked hard for it. As Kaoru gets angry at Kenshin and Sano, Kenshin runs away from her when she chases after them.

Ten days later, Kenshin wonders what to do with Udo and Kanryu when Kaoru asks Kenshin to come with her to a practice at another dojo. As Yahiko says that he will have dinner at Akabeko, Kenshin says that he will come pick him up later. Kenshin then asks Sano to watch the Dojo, which Sano agrees to do it. Afterwards Kenshin and Kaoru head to another Dojo.

Later, Kenshin and Kaoru leave the Maekawa Dojo after they finish practice. Kaoru asks what Kenshin thinks about the Maekawa Dojo, which Kenshin says that its not like the Kamiya Dojo. Kaoru says that the Kamiya Dojo used to be like the Maekawa Dojo and now the its getting lively again, which Kenshin says that its funny that they are not students. As Kaoru figures that she can asks Yahiko to join the Dojo, which Kenshin tells her that that is a great idea. Suddenly the two comes across the gaslights, which Kenshin is amazed and comments about how its unbelievably bright. Suddenly Kaoru explains her view of how the art of the sword is changing, which Kenshin says that that sounds like a fine idea for her but tells her that the art of the sword is different for him.

The next day, They are all eating when Kenshin notices that the look Yahiko has. Kenshin and Sano asks if its about the food that they are eating. Kaoru says that they should twist the subject, which Kenshin says that its change the subject while Sano says that Kaoru's true thoughts have been revealed. Kaoru gets angry at them and chases them which Kenshin and Sano run away. Suddenly Kaoru asks Yahiko if she will join the Dojo which Kenshin wonders what Yahiko would say. Yahiko asks how much he can make swinging a stick and runs away, which Kenshin is concerned about Yahiko. Later that night, Kenshin appears when Yahiko goes to get the documents for the dojo. When Yahiko goes to look, Kenshin quickly disappears.

The next day, Kenshin is looking for Kaoru when he realizes that she must have gone to the Maekawa Dojo already. Kenshin and Sano start to help out when Kanryu shows up. Kenshin asks what he wants, which Kanryu tells him to stay back and explains that he came to get an answer to his proposal. As Yahiko shows up with the document but doesn't give it to him and explains how he will fine a way to help Tsubame, which Kenshin touches Yahiko's shoulder and says that they will talk later. Suddenly Gein and Inui break into the Dojo and toss a wounded child at Kenshin's feet. The child tells Kenshin what happened at the Maekawa Dojo and how Udo is after Kaoru. Kenshin then gets the child to a safe place and heads out, when Sano and Yahiko tells him to go.

As Kenshin leaves, Gein chases after him. As Kenshin runs across the roof tops, Gein thinks about how Kenshin is talking the shortest route to the Dojo. Gein attacks Kenshin, but Kenshin easily counters it. As the two arrive at a shrine, which Saito shows up and says that they are crazy. Kenshin leave Gein to Saito and leaves. Kenshin then arrives that the Maekawa Dojo and notices the message that Udo left him.

Kenshin arrive at Hyakugokugahara and asks were Kaoru is, while staying hidden. Udo reveals were Kaoru is and says that he has cut her wrists, which causes Kenshin's presence swell up. Udo figures out were Kenshin is and charges, but Kenshin lands a hit on Udo's head with his Ryushosen technique. Kenshin asks why Udo has done this to Kaoru and if it has anything to do with what he did to Udo, which Udo says that he is actually grateful to Kenshin for what he did and explains how he enjoyed the bakumatsu and wants to get that feeling again. Udo tells Kenshin to give it to him, which Kenshin says that he refuses and gets behind Udo. Kenshin lands a blow on Udo's back with Ryukansen technique, and then uses his Tsumuji Kogarashi Arachi technique to breaks Udo's arm. Kenshin then breaks Udo's other arm by using his Ryutsuisen technique.

Kenshin tells Udo that its over since he has broken both of Udo's arm. Suddenly Udo gets up and is excited about what Kenshin has done, which Kenshin thinks about how what he done has no effect on Udo. Udo attacks which Kenshin manages to dodge. Kenshin uses his Tensho Ryusen technique, but Udo is able to disarm Kenshin and even wound him. Udo notices that Kenshin is not giving it his all and decides to kill Kaoru. Kenshin tells Udo to stop, but Udo thrusts his sword into Kaoru. As Udo pulls his sword out of Kaoru, Kenshin lands two blows on Udo. Kenshin gets angry and proclaims that he is going to kill Udo. Udo gets excited and attacks, but Kenshin uses his Kokonotsu Gashira no Ryu no Hirameki technique to stab Udo nine times. Kenshin then goes to kill Udo, but Kaoru suddenly grabs Kenshin and tells him to stop. Kenshin wonders why Kaoru is alive but notices were Udo had stabbed her. Kenshin tells Udo that this fight is over, which he and Kaoru then watch as Udo kills himself. Kaoru tells Kenshin that they should head home, and explains how people can change and that she wants Kenshin to be the person she had met. Kenshin and Kaoru then head home.

Sometime later, Kenshin meets with Saito and discuss what happened. Saito tells Kenshin the message that his allies had told him. Saito also says that Kenshin was lucky this time and that Kenshin blade will be turned on him one day, which Kenshin says that that is fine and says that he will never return to the pool of blood. Kenshin then leave and meets up with his friends. As Kenshin meets up with his friends, they greet him which Kenshin says that its good to be back.
