Kamiya Koshijiro is the founder of the Kamiya Dōjō and its Kamiya Kasshin-ryū as well as the father of the current master, Kamiya Kaoru and grandfather to Himura Kenji.
Appearance[]
Koshijiro is a muscular man with short black wild hair, arched eyebrows, with a stubble surrounding his chin and upper lip, and wrinkles around his eyes.
Koshijiro wears a black haori over a white skirt.
Personality[]
Kamiya Koshijiro was said to be a righteous, strong and honorable man, and benevolent at heart, having developed the sword that saves lives rather than continuing in the tradition of swords that kill.
Relationships[]
- Kamiya Kaoru: Koshijiro is the father of Kaoru, and the person who taught her Kendo.
- Maekawa Miyauchi: Mr. Maekawa is a long-time friend of Koshijiro's, so much that Kaoru usually goes to his dojo for kendo training.
- Himura Kenji: Kenji is Koshijiro's grandson.

Koshijiro is a master swordsman, and the founder of the Kamiya Kasshin-Ryu.
History[]
After fighting in the bakumatsu on the side of the Ishin Shishi patriots, Koshijiro returned to his hometown of Tokyo and developed his kenjutsu style to protect people than the traditional kill. However, he was drafted into the Seinan Wars and, in 1877, was thought to have died on the battlefield.
Hokkaido Arc[]
In 1883, Kaoru ends up with a photo of her father, that revealed that he was alive and living in Hokkaidō, prompting Kaoru and her family to travel there in hopes of a reunion and answers regarding his disappearance.

Koshijiro only appears on both Episode 1 of the 1996 anime (in flashback) and in Episode 1 of the 2023 anime.
Trivia[]
- Both in the 1996 anime and in the 2023 when Koshijiro appears (both in Episode 1), his face is obscured to stress the fact he is dead. But in the 2023 anime, he is shown with an image that is consistent with his physical appearance as depicted in The Hokkaido Arc manga.
- His appearance in the Hokkaido Arc makes the first time his actual face is shown.
