Rurouni Kenshin: The Legends Ends is the second sequel to the Rurouni Kenshin live-action film, the first one being Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno. It premiered in September 13th, 2014 in Japan and 24th in the Philippines.

Summary[]

The movie starts with a short backstory from Kenshin’s childhood.

Kenshin pleads his master to teach him the ultimate technique of Hiten Mitsurugi-ryū to be able to defeat Shishio Makoto. Kenshin goes back to Aoiya Inn with Misao and they find out that Okina is gone. The old member of Oniwaban group tries to stop Aoshi Shinomori for the last time despite the grave wounds on his frail body. Kenshin fights against Aoshi and stops by the Kamiya dojo and chances upon Takani Megumi who is currently looking after the residence. For his crimes Kenshin should be executed in public.

The final battle against Shishio started and ended on a ship.

Difference from the Manga[]

  • In the manga, Kenshin meets Hiko Seijuro after he obtained his new Sakabato. In the film, Kenshin is saved by Seijuro in the beach after he tried to save Kaoru from Shishio in previous film.
  • In the manga, Kenshin fights Aoshi in Mount Hiei. In the film, Kenshin fights Aoshi in the forest.
  • Kenshin's execution scene is not included in the manga.
  • In the manga, the final fight's setting is in Mount Hiei. In the film, the final fight's setting is in Rengoku.
  • In the manga, Kenshin and Sanosuke went to Shishio's place while being guided by Yumi. In the film, Kenshin and Sanosuke went to Shishio's place by themselves.
  • In the manga, Sadojima Hoji sacrificed himself by self-destructing their stronghold in Mount Hiei after Shishio's death. In the film, Hoji gets punched by Sanosuke.
  • In the manga, Shishio burned while he's still fighting against Kenshin. In the film, Shishio burned after he was completely defeated by Kenshin.
  • In the manga, Okina survives the wounds but yet is in recovery stage. In the film, he died succumbing to his wounds.

Development[]

Filming began July 1, 2013 and finished December 27, 2013. Filming took place in Ibaraki, Yamagata, Kumamoto, Shiga, Hyogo, Kyoto, Nagano, Tochigi, Chiba, Kanagawa and Tokyo, Japan. More than 5,000 extras were used for the film.
