A Reason to Act (動く理由 Ugoku Wake) is the 3rd volume of the original Rurouni Kenshin manga by Nobuhiro Watsuki.
Summary[]
After defeating Takeda Kanryū's men, Kenshin and Sanosuke discover that Kanryu is protected by the last members of the Oniwabanshū group. Sanosuke learns of why Megumi was pursuited and becomes angry at her for the loss of his friend due to the reason, yet Kenshin still decides to protect her. That night they are attacked by two Oniwabanshū members called Hyottoko and Beshimi. Sanosuke defeats Hyottoko, but Megumi is attacked by Beshimi when Yahiko tries to protect her by taking the hit from Beshmi's poison darts. Megumi reveals herself as the last of a noble doctor family from Aizu as she manages to save Yahiko's life. Despite Kenshin and Kaoru's plea to stay, a guilty Megumi intends to leave the dojo rather than endanger anyone else and intends to "atone" for her crimes by returning to Kanryū to kill him, but is taken prisoner instead. Regardless of Sano still angry at her and Yahiko wanting to repay the debt, they join Kenshin as they storm into Kanryu's mansion.
