Zanza vs. Drunks is a fight fought between the gangster Zanza and a bunchy of rowdy thugs, which is the fifth fight in the Rurouni Kenshin series.
Prologue[]
Three drunks babbled about freedom and prosperity while dining at the Akabeko. Tae tried to calm them down once they had gotten too rowdy, but she was backhanded in the face for her efforts. Zanza, a frequent customer at the Akabeko who never pays his bill, stood up for Tae, also being a bit annoyed by the drunks. In Zanza's opinion, they're babbling is uselss, for they talk about freedom and prosperity, but can't treat a lady right.
Battle[]
Outside the Akabeko, one of the three drunks challenged the gangster Zanza first. This first opponent had carried a hidden weapon, which he tried to plant on Zanza's forehead. However, somehow, Zanza was able to dodge the attack and twist the man's arm back. The move used to finish off the drunk was just a simple almighty finger flick.
Aftermath[]
One of the drunk's friends intends to engage and prepares to draw his sword, but doesn't thanks to Kenshin intimidating intervention, scaring the trio off.
Differences in Other Media[]
- In the 1996 anime, Kaoru charges into the Shuei territory first only to get bested by Gasuke before Kenshin arrives and concludes the matter. Before dealing with weapons, Kaoru challenges them in a game of odd-even to which she technically lost (if Yahiko hadn't switched the dices).
